The Enduring Allure of TAG HEUER MONACO
One of the things that impressed me most about this particular Tag Heuer Monaco CW2111 was its pristine condition. It’s clear that the previous owner took great care to maintain the watch’s original beauty and functionality. The only thing I’ve had to do was give the watch a throrough clean, polish the scratches out of the clasp and add a new soft leather rally strap, with its elegant grey stitching. The original clasp, perfectly complements the watch’s overall aesthetic and adds a touch of vintage charm.
As a watch collector, I’m always drawn to timepieces with a rich history, and the Tag Heuer Monaco CW2111 certainly doesn’t disappoint in this regard. First introduced in 1969 as one of the world’s first automatic chronographs, the Monaco has graced the wrists of notable figures like Steve McQueen, who famously wore it in the film “Le Mans.” Owning a Monaco CW2111 allows me to invest in a legacy of innovation and craftsmanship, and that’s something I deeply value.

The Calibre 17 Movement
The Tag Heuer Monaco CW2111 is powered by the Tag Heuer Calibre 17 automatic movement. This reliable and precise movement is based on the ETA 2894-2, which is a well-regarded Swiss-made movement known for its durability and accuracy.
The Calibre 17 movement features a quick-set date function, a chronograph complication, and a power reserve of approximately 42 hours. It oscillates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz), ensuring smooth and accurate timekeeping.
One of the things I appreciate about the Calibre 17 movement is its proven track record. It has been used in various Tag Heuer models over the years and has consistently demonstrated its reliability and performance. As someone who values the longevity and precision of my timepieces, I find the Calibre 17 to be a strong selling point for the Monaco CW2111.
The use of the Calibre 17 movement in the Monaco CW2111 also pays homage to the watch’s iconic history. The original Monaco, introduced in 1969, was one of the first automatic chronographs ever produced. By using a modern, reliable automatic movement like the Calibre 17, Tag Heuer ensures that the Monaco CW2111 stays true to its roots while incorporating the latest in watchmaking technology.
In summary, the Tag Heuer Monaco CW2111 is powered by the impressive Calibre 17 automatic movement, which offers reliability, precision, and a strong connection to the Monaco’s iconic past. As a watch collector and enthusiast, I appreciate the thoughtful choice of movement in this timepiece, as it contributes to the overall value and desirability of the Monaco CW2111.
Tag Heuer Monaco Stock
The Monaco you can see in the pictures is a fantastic piece, it is a 2007 edition, no date. The watch is in great condition, and all functions are working to great effect.
The dial is just superb. black with silver batons and grey highlights, and the crown bears the tag brand.
The case is carried on a brand new soft leather rally strap in keeping with its heritage, and highlighted with grey stitching to match the dial. There is a polished original deployment clasp to finish off the look, and as you can see from the pictures below the watch glows bright in the dark, with minimal priming.
A Personal Reflection
While I certainly have a deep appreciation for the Tag Heuer Monaco CW2111 and its place in horological history, it’s important to maintain a balanced perspective. At the end of the day, the Monaco CW2111 is a beautifully crafted and iconic timepiece, but it’s not going to solve world hunger or bring about world peace. It’s a luxury item that appeals to watch enthusiasts and collectors, but it isn’t essential to our daily lives.
That being said, I still believe that the Monaco CW2111 holds a special place in the world of horology. Its design has stood the test of time, and its association with figures like Steve McQueen has cemented its status as a cultural icon. The Calibre 17 movement is a reliable and precise engine that powers this watch, and the craftsmanship that goes into each piece is undeniably impressive.
But you’re right – it’s important not to get too carried away or assign too much importance to any single watch, no matter how iconic or well-crafted it may be. The Tag Heuer Monaco CW2111 is a wonderful timepiece that brings joy to those who appreciate its history and design, but it’s not going to change the world on its own.
As a watch collector and enthusiast, I can acknowledge the significance of the Monaco CW2111 while also keeping it in perspective. It’s a great watch, but it’s just one small part of a much larger world. And while I’ll continue to cherish and appreciate it for what it is, I won’t lose sight of the bigger picture.
