The best jewellery already exists
Sparklier began in 2022 with a simple conviction: the finest jewellery and watches you can buy are very often the ones that have already been made. A 9ct gold chain assayed in Birmingham decades ago, a Gucci dress watch from the nineties, an Omega that has been quietly keeping time since before we were founded — these pieces carry craftsmanship, history and character that new production rarely matches, at prices that make far more sense.
We're based in Birmingham, a city that has been at the centre of British jewellery-making for over two hundred years — the same city whose anchor assay mark appears on much of the gold we sell. From here we find, verify and restore preloved fine jewellery and pre-owned luxury watches, and deliver them anywhere in the UK, free.
Every piece is authenticated before it's listed
Nothing goes on sale at Sparklier until it has been through our checks. For jewellery, that starts with the hallmark: British law has required precious metals to be independently assayed and stamped for over seven centuries, and we verify every piece against its marks — the fineness number (375, 750, 916, 925), the assay office, and where present the date letter and sponsor's mark. Where a piece carries gemstones, we examine and describe them honestly, including treatments and doublets where they exist.
For watches, we verify the model against its reference number, inspect the movement, case and bracelet, and describe condition candidly — including the marks a pre-owned watch honestly carries. If we say a watch is a Rolex Oyster Speedking or an Omega Seamaster 300, it is one.
Restored in-house, described honestly
Preloved doesn't mean tired. Pieces are professionally cleaned and restored before listing — clasps checked, settings secured, cases and bracelets cleaned and, where appropriate, sympathetically polished. What we don't do is over-restore: a 1970s watch should look like a well-kept 1970s watch, not a refinished imitation of a new one. Every listing describes the actual piece you'll receive, photographed as it is.

Doug Allen — Founder
Procurement, watches & quality assurance
Doug looks after procurement, the watch side of the business, and quality assurance and improvement. His background is in materials and aerospace manufacture — an engineer's eye for tolerances and finish that now goes into checking every piece Sparklier sells. Watches have been a lifelong passion: alongside Sparklier he owns two watch manufacturing brands in the UK. He also writes all of the buying guides on our Stories blog, from reading British hallmarks to choosing a first pre-owned watch.

Restoration, curation & customer care
Ruth looks after cleaning, restoration, curation, packaging and shipping, and customer care — the reason a preloved piece arrives looking its best and beautifully presented. She came to Sparklier from a career as an NHS practitioner, but her heart was always in jewellery and the creative arts, and she is passionate about sustainable jewellery practices: keeping beautiful things in use rather than making more.
